Joel Westheimer, professor with the University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Education, speaks to teacher candidates and Ottawa Catholic School Board teachers about citizenship education in a globally-aware classroom. Presented in partnership with the ongoing KNAER research project, Joel discusses the tenets of a “good global citizen,” and the difference between one who is good by following the generally-accepted rules and one who takes it upon her/himself to challenge them. Dr. Westheimer also touches on the steps teachers can take to facilitate the process of creating empathetic, socially-aware, and critically-thinking leaders through classroom activity.
