The Ontario Institute for Studies in Education is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Carol Campbell as the Director of the Knowledge Network for Applied Education Research (KNAER), a joint initiative of the Ontario Ministry of Education, the University of Western Ontario, and the University of Toronto (http://www.knaer-recrae.ca).

Dr. Campbell is known for her commitment to and experience in connecting evidence, policy and practice for educational improvement. In the USA, Carol was Executive Director of the Stanford Center for Opportunity Policy in Education (SCOPE) at Stanford University. Previously, Carol held senior positions in the Ontario Ministry of Education, including: Senior Executive Officer for The Literacy and Numeracy Secretariat responsible for research, evaluation and data; being appointed the Ministry’s first Chief Research Officer for Education; and becoming founding Director of the Education Research & Evaluation Strategy Branch. In the U.K., Carol was a member of the faculty at the Institute of Education, University of London. She was also a Policy Advisor for the national government in England on strategies for improving school district performance and for the Commissioner for London Schools to create a framework for teachers’ professional development. Originally from Scotland, Carol completed her doctorate at the University of Strathclyde and held teaching and research posts at Strathclyde and Glasgow universities.
